WorldWarII in HD 720p averaged about 15% usage. I tried several HD vids & web sites and saw a max spike of about 21%. Pros: This APU is a perfect fit in an HTPC build. I just wanted an easy and cheap setup capable of playing HD video and maybe some light gaming, and it didn't disappoint.
I paired this with the GIGABYTE A75m-ud2h board, which has every connection you could think of, and setup was a breeze. The cooler that came with it fits in the HTPC case easily and should be adequate considering the low demand I'm placing on it, and it runs very quiet. I'm not too familiar with tinkering around with all the bios settings or voltages or OC'ing, so no comments there.Ĭons: I demo'ed a couple games to test it. While the Sims 3 ran pretty well at high settings, Deus Ex was barley playable with some enhancements off. I didn't expect to do much high-end gaming anyway, so no problem there. But I just wanted to point out that this is the lower end of the APUs, don't expect much for modern games.
Overall Review: This was my first time building a PC from scratch and it couldn't have gone smoother. I had been using an 8 year old laptop as my HTPC, so anything was going to be a huge improvement. I had been looking at an Intel i3 2100 until I saw these come available. At about $50 less, this was the more tempting choice for me.Recently AMD sent us a rig to review and test their new 780G chipset. Included in the rig was the ATI Radeon 3450 HD, one of the few cards that work with the new Hybrid Crossfire. We will be taking a look at the ATI Radeon 3450 and seeing how it performs against our testing.
Also please check out our review on the Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI(coming soon) to see how the 780G chipset does with the ATI Radeon 3450. Product Overview: Experience the Power of HDĮxperience the power of HD with the ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series of GPUs - graphics processing designed for entertainment and productivity. With ATI Avivo™ HD technology, the latest Blu-ray and HD DVD movies play as smoothly as intended at True HD 1080p.
However, unlike the RV635 though, the RV620 GPU didn't go on a diet – it actually has around a million more transistors than the Radeon HD 2400's 180 million transistors.Īlso, there are two distinct products available in the Radeon HD 3400 series: the HD 3450 and the HD 3470 – these will hit price points of around £25-30 (inc. The ASIC supports the same features as the Radeon HD 3650, which includes DirectX 10.1, PCI-Express 2.0, and of course ATI PowerPlay – double precision support is again not confirmed, but I'm waiting to hear back from AMD on that point ( Update: now confirmed as per previous page - Ed.). The underlying architecture remains the same, which means there are eight five-way superscalar shader units (or 40 stream processors, depending on which way you take your medicine), four texture units and four raster operators backing out onto a 64-bit memory bus width. The Radeon HD 3400 series offer the same set of feature improvements over the Radeon HD 2400 series as the Radeon HD 3650 does over the HD 2600 series. Radeon HD 3400 seriesRV620 is AMD’s value-orientated ASIC and is used for both the Radeon HD 3450 and Radeon HD 3470 graphics cards.
